Network Field Day 6

The first Tech Field Day (@TechFieldDay) event I ever participated in was Wireless Field Day 2 in January 2012.  I happen to be on Twitter and saw some people I followed talking about it, so I clicked a link, and there I was watching a LIVE feed on Meraki while I sat on my couch having dinner.  I even asked a question on Twitter directed at the speaker.  If my memory serves me correct, Tom Hollingsworth (@NetworkingNerd) was nice enough to relay the message from Twitter to the Meraki presenter as I waited and listened for an answer.  My voice was heard from across the United States while not even being in the room.  This was pretty sweet.
From then on, I would try and beam in via Twitter or the LIVE feed whenever possible during subsequent TFD events to stay up to speed on the latest and greatest technology.  If you aren’t familiar with Tech Field Day, I highly suggest you check out some videos online from their past events.

At Interop this past May, I was able to meet Matthew Norwood (@MatthewNorwood) in person and we attended many of the same sessions.  He’s done several TFD events in the past.  During some downtime, Matt recommended I try and sit in on TFD roundtables that were happening with NEC and Juniper since he knew of my interest in Software Defined Networking (SDN).  He said first go to talk to Stephen Foskett (@SFoskett) and see what he says.  Of course I already knew who Stephen was from following TFD on Twitter.  I couldn’t believe I was possibly going to have a chance to actually participate in a live roundtable.  Sure enough, Stephen was nice enough to allow me to participate in the NEC and Juniper sessions.

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of getting an email from Stephen and the Tech Field Day team inviting me to be an official Delegate for Network Field Day 6 beginning on September 11, where I’ll have the pleasure of getting deep dives over a 3 day period from this year’s sponsors.  They include Big Switch, Plexxi, Nuage, Aruba, SolarWinds, Spirent, ThousdandEyes, and WildPackets.  The opportunity is extremely humbling and I am grateful for the opportunity.  Thank you to the Tech Field Day team.

Check out the event details for NFD6 and information on other event delegates here.

Software Defined Data Center

It turns out, the day before NFD6 starts, there will be a Software Defined Data Center (SDDC) Symposium that is being organized by Tech Field Day, SDNCentral, and Packet Pushers.  And I get to attend this event as well – how cool is that?  The SDDC event, on September 10, is sponsored by Embrane, NEC, Nuage, Nutanix, and Plexxi.  You can purchase tickets for the event (yes, it’s open to the public) and view the full agenda on the official EventBrite TFD site.  If you want to save $5 on your registration, feel free to use the following promotional code when buying your ticket: JEdelman

As you prepare for both SDDC and NFD, let me know if there are topics of interest that you would like to see included in any of the Plexxi portions. You have a pretty solid foundation for what Plexxi does, but if there are nuances, details, or plans you'd specifically like covered, let me know.

Thanks, Mike. I'll email you topics if I think of anything. Appreciate the offer.
